tralalalally:middle-earth history meme: {1/3} elvesFinduilas, daughter of Orodreth, was princess of Nargothrond. She was named Faelivrin by Gwindor, her betrothed, for her beauty was as the gleam of the sun upon the pools of Ivrin. When Gwindor returned to Nargothrond after years of torment as a thrall in Angband, Finduilas welcomed him and loved him still, although he was much changed in body and spirit. But against her will she found her heart turned more and more to his companion Agarwaen, at first unaware that he was actually Túrin, son of Húrin, cursed by Morgoth. While Túrin looked to her for her friendship and wisdom, he did not recognise her love, and the light of Finduilas grew ever dimmer. When Morgoth sent a great host into the realm of Nargothrond, Orodreth the king was slain on the field of Tumhalad, and Gwindor fell also. He begged Túrin to save Finduilas, and with his final words warned him that she alone could stand between him and his doom. But on returning to Nargothrond Túrin looked in the eyes of the dragon Glaurung and was held in his spell, and he did not see Finduilas reaching for him or hear her calling his name as she was taken captive by orcs. Only when the dragon withdrew his glance was he aware of her cries, and they continued to haunt him. But believing Glaurung’s lies, he abandoned her and looked first for his mother and sister in Dor-lómin. When he realised the deception of the dragon and sought for Finduilas, it was too late. Ambushed by the people of Haladin, the orcs had slaughtered their captives, and Orodreth’s daughter they had fastened with a spear to a tree. She was buried near the Crossings of Teiglin, and her grave was called Haudh-en-Elleth, the Mound of the Elf-maid. -- source link
