louchan:Utena’s words here always intrigued me.Out of all the duels she’s fought this far, it’s the duels against Touga that she feels have been numerous. And while she has indeed only fought Touga two times prior to this, she has had a much longer battle against what Touga is offering her right here.As a child, Utena decided to reject the system. She refused to be a princess in favor of being a prince. She wanted to protect, not be protected. And since the very beginning, Touga has done nothing but attempt to strip Utena of that. Unlike their first two duels, Touga no longer carries any intentional malice towards Utena, and genuinely believes he’s doing this for her sake, but really, he’s still doing the exact same thing that he has always done.He wants to be Utena’s prince, he wants Utena to be protected by him, he wants Utena to take back the role the system gave her as a girl. For Touga, this is the third duel. For Utena, this is a battle she has fought her entire life. -- source link
