smhalltheurlsaretaken: Again I’m so sorry for invading you dashboards people, I swear I’m just in a “the Clone Wars coming to an end” frenzy, it’s almost over. This. This is why Obi-Wan Kenobi will ALWAYS be my favorite character EVER, all movies/books/media/genre/fandoms included. There are other characters with beautiful souls, but he stands apart if only for the magnitude of his goodness. This is a Jedi. Obi-Wan has lost *everything* to the Sith at this point - his culture, his home, his identity, his friends and his family. And yet, instead of the bitterness this would foster in basically anyone else in this entire franchise or any other universes except maybe for Yoda, it has made him even *kinder.* He is completely hollowed out, and he’s filled with Light. Here Obi-Wan is holding Maul, who:killed his Master/father figure in front of himmurdered the love of his life in exactly the same way as he watchedslaughtered entire villages and orchestrated wars just to get to himruined Satine’s life work by returning her pacified people to their violent waysand basically just forced Obi-Wan to kill him despite Obi-Wan not wanting to.And Obi-Wan mourns him?!?fghjklmlkjhgfdghjkl *dies*Guys, he is so good. And not like in the “oh, this character lived through a traumatic event and is still kind/chooses not to murder the person responsible after a long internal struggle” cliché. It goes so far beyond that. He would heal his worst enemies and give them tea and hugs if it took that to bring them back from the darkness. He would probably die for his worst enemies if he wasn’t committed to protecting Luke. Here’s a quote from George Lucas: “[The Jedi are] not supposed to form attachments. They can love people- in fact, they should love everybody. They should love their enemies; they should love the Sith. But they can’t form attachments.“ (The Making of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith) (Lucas defines attachment as the inability/refusal to let go of what you love/fear to lose.) And here’s the thing - Obi-Wan does that. He lets go of the people he has lost, and he loves even Darth Maul, because he sees how much Maul has lost too, how much he has suffered, and how pathetic he really is. And with all of that, there are people who think Obi-Wan Kenobi is an asshole. What, with all due respect, the fuck. -- source link
