princelesscomic:goodbyealoysius:princelesscomic:While I love everything about this page, perhaps my favorite thing is what’s not here.Misty’s cybernetic arm.It was nice in a story about superheroes (where disabilities are so often depicted as something to be fixed) that we were able to depict Misty as a woman with an actual disability. At the end of the day, she’s lost an arm and while it has been replaced with a giant metal one that’s very useful for punching bad guys, it’s not something you would want to wear to bed or for late night canoodling with your husband. To my mind, that’s something that’s largely missing in comics that I wanted to make sure was here. Guirhiru did a great job of depicting it and doing so simply and subtly. Also, pretty sure the cybernetic arm could handle a bantu knot, no problem. But instead, Danny does them. He’s taken the time to learn. And hair braiding such an amazingly intimate and culturally significant activity. Almost every black girl ever has memories of sitting on the floor between her mum’s legs, her aunt’s legs, her grandma’s legs. A large portion of black boys and NBs have these memories too. IDK I just think it’s a really important bonding activity, especially when done by someone who loves you. ALSO this way, Danny learns how to do their daughter’s hair in the future and I CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW CUTE THAT IS.I mean I really can’t fully articulate why this makes me so happy but it’s really fucking cute OK?!I am absolutely with you on every count here, having been the husband/boyfriend helping my wife with her hair, that was the experience I wanted to share here. Guirhiru did an amazing job with the illustration and I think the whole thing cam together very nicely. -- source link
