mangoestho:angryhijabi:This is so sad. Women are already discouraged from pursuing science. Treating us like criminals for experimenting isn’t helping.this is about criminalization of black girls. this is the convergence of anti-blackness and misogyny and the prison industrial complex’s investment in imprisoning black children (the pre-k to prison pipeline). and to reduce this as an attempt to stop “women” from pursuing science isn’t responsible or accurate to the structural reasons why this happened… because all girl’s (not women. she is 16. not an adult she is a black GIRL) actions, inquiry, behaviors in schools don’t result in them being arrested. certain bodies are coded as inherently criminal and threatening. we can have a conversation about ahmed mohamed and the intersections of islamophobia, anti-blackness and xenophobia and also have a conversation about the criminalization of black girls without irresponsibly reducing and over simplifying issues like this. -- source link
