labete-du-gevaudan: Since the 1800s, many sightings of sea monsters have been seen around Hull, Massachusetts. These sea serpent sightings have all been classified under the title of the Nantasket Sea Serpent. The first major sighting took place in 1830 when a Boston man was out on a fishing trip on the weekend. He claimed to have seen a sea monster that was more than 100 feet in length swimming very close to the shore of Nantasket Beach. In 1905, a man named Henry Hatch was out with his wife at the beach on a fishing trip. The two of them saw the creature, and Henry described it as such: “The monster, which resembled a serpent in its sinuous movements, with great rapidity passed within 100 feet of the boat, furiously lashing the sea and leaving a wide wake in its course.” In 1911, a flood of sightings caused the residents of Hull to create the Sea Serpent Club which included many respected members of the community such as police officers and town officials. They placed a large telescope on Green Hill and took turns on “sea serpent watch”. -- source link
