This year, we celebrate Trans Week of Action and work against dangerous transphobic legislation progressing all over the U.S. ok this is not a bad thing. gender dysphoria is normally described as extreme discomfort with one’s body (not an exact definition). therapy is important when someone is going to make a major life change as a result of a mental illness. also getting doctor’s recommendations before prescriptions is a safety thing. for everyone. again, it’s a very big step that you’re taking “gender affirming surgery” is purely cosmetic. it just is. we don’t allow minors to get cosmetic surgery, why would it be any different for trans people? and you don’t have to bind for 10 hours a day. again, binding has been proven to be dangerous and there is no safe way to do itI’d have to find sources for the parents forcing their kids to be trans “myth” because it definitely does happen, I just need to find the examples that I have. if anyone wants to link some themselves then that’s good too! Little is known about the effects of puberty blockersWe need balance when it comes to gender dysphoric kids. I would know | OpinionNine yearsOnline clinic GenderGP ignores ruling on puberty blockers | News | The Sunday TimesPuberty blocking drugs: ‘For the past four years I’ve been stuck as a child’NHS transgender clinic accused of covering up negative impacts of puberty blockers on children by Oxford professorLandmark Case in the Fight to Protect Nonconforming Youth No Child is Born in the Wrong Body - The Velvet ChronicleLandmark Case in the Fight to Protect Nonconforming Youth This whole comic thingy is so gaslight-y. “It’s a myth that children will threaten suicide if they can’t get hormones” is something that I’ve seen older trans people tell younger ones to do! I’ve seen that! Sure it might not be super common but that doesn’t mean it never happens.“It’s a lot harder to get hormones in other places”And in some places it’s a lot easier. And yes, there are even some states that allow top surgery before 18.“99% of people who transition don’t regret it” Apparently this comes from a small, very old study that found only like 1% of people detransition. People calling themselves trans has increased literally like 1,000% since then, and the rate of detransitioners is definitely higher, too. We’d have better data if gender clinics actually tracked it but they don’t. It’s also worth noting that several other studies have found that childhood and teen dysphoria goes away over 60% of the time, some studies found it’s retained less than 10% of the time! Even if these people don’t regret transition it’s also just as true that they would have been just fine in their original body, and not have wasted so much time and money on hormones and expensive surgeries.“Gender affirming care is supported by all major medical organizations!”Because they’re the ones profiting, ya dip. Medical malpractice isn’t a new concept. we ARE performing these radical surgeries on children. i will shout from the rooftops until my lungs give out that jazz jennings was 17 when he had his penis inverted and stapled to a piece of his stomach lining.Edit: when you admit that you were puberty suppressed, you are letting everyone know that you did not go through a normal maturation process, and that your thought processes are still running on what is basically a child’s brain. that is probably what is causing this woman to think that it’s perfectly fine to disrupt puberty: that we’ve found the fountain of youth, that we can halt the maturation process with no side effects.this does NOT absolve her caretakers of the responsibility they bear for sterilizing her and possibly inflicting lifelong bone problems and sexual dysfunction. THEY should have know better. they failed her massively. i’m no lawyer but “we don’t give drugs to prepubescent kids” and “we start puberty blockers before puberty” seem to be contradictory statements -- source link
