ltwilliammowett:Gold pendant, shaped like a foul anchor and inscribed with the words ‘NELSON’S VICTORY, AUGUST 1.1798’. It is suspended from a blue and white ribbon, which is attached to a gold pin. The pendant was made to commemorate the Battle of the Nile, and it has been suggested that this type of pendant was originally worn on a coat, in the centre of a patriotic ‘favour’ but ‘The Morning Post and Gazeteer’ 8 November 1798 says 'The Ladies in compliment to our naval victories, sport the golden anchor, which suspended by a chain, rests on the bosom’.Date madecirca 1798 -- source link
