talesfromweirdland:The Nightmare (1781), by Swiss painter Henry Fuseli. (And a variation done later.) The word “nightmare” comes from the Old English “mære”, a folkloric demon creature that torments sleepers in their dreams. The word was first used circa 1830, which begs the question: what were nightmares called before?Everything you know about nightmares is true. You’ll have more of them when you feel negative and stressful; you’ll have less of them when you feel positive. Don’t confuse them with unpleasant dreams though—when you have a real nightmare, you’ll know it. -- source link
