This week’s feature comes from excavations near the Mines of Spain in Dubuque County. This Spanish Milled Dollar two reale coin has a 1791 date, and is stamped “ULTRA QUE UNUM”. Such coins were minted in Mexico City from 1732-1826 for circulation with Spain’s American Colonies. This coin has a small circular hole near one edge, suggesting use as a medallion or button.
