Eugene Ormandy had an early start in his musical career before he became the director of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Ormandy gave his first violin concerts at age seven in Budapest. To become good enough to play concerts at such a young age you need a lot of practice, so it’s no surprise that this photograph, dated 1902, places him at just three. Talk about a wunderkind! Penn has a close association with the maestro, visit an online exhibition of Ormandy’s papers here: library.upenn.edu/exhibits/rbm/ormandy/toc.html @philorch* * *#kislakcenter #pennlibraries #Budapest #philadelphiaorchestra #EugeneOrmandy #wunderkind #virtuoso #violinist #prodigy #photograph #portrait #specialcollections -- source link
