bbmud: ogshnawko: harrysflaccidcock: Someone at my school made these in response to my principal announcing a dress code that, as usual, only applied to girls, and I’m kind of proud That’s life. Boys and girls will always have double standards; whether it’s men being able to be shirtless in public or women not being allowed to wear short shorts and not be sexualized. That’s how life was then, now and always will be and nothing can change that. We will always be seen as sex objects, and that will always be the case unfortunately. that’s such a sad way to look at this though! no please really, honestly i love that someone is speaking out like this at their school, the more people speak up and say “hey this is wrong, this shouldn’t be this way” the more things will change! if you just look at dress codes from years and years ago, things have changed. girls used to HAVE to wear skirts or dresses, no pants, or they’d have to go home and change. and their skirts had to go well past their knees, or else they’d have to go home and change. they had to cover up a quite a bit, and then people spoke up and of course clothing styles changed, and the rules changed. if we keep speaking out about this kind of stuff, it’ll change soon too. I can tell you 100% no one in a college setting (except for grody sexist male professors) give a shit about girl legs being visible in the classroom. If my legs aren’t distracting men my age in an academic setting, they weren’t going to distract teenage boys from passing classes in high school. Assuming high school boys are incapable of being respectful perpetuates the idea of “boys will be boys” which is rape culture. The only reason girls have to risk heatstroke is because grown men are taught to sexualize us, but that can be changed if we as a collective speak up loud and often. We have to start the change. We can’t just say our efforts will never get us anywhere and then not try. I don’t know about you, but if some middle-aged creep insisted my teen knees caused him to think impure thoughts, I sure as hell wouldn’t just Think Of England. -- source link
