Commodus, aka AVRELIVS COMMODVS PIVS FELIX, (932-945 ab urbe condita) Sixth and final member of my Nerva-Antonine series, Imperator Commodus. See the rest of the dynasty here [x] and read more about him below the cut.☆Merch Here☆I know that most of my artwork revolves around the end of the Republic, but my undergrad thesis actually involves the coinage of second and third centuries! This period was full of just as much drama as the beginning of the empire and I love everyone (mostly). Commodus has a lot of stigma around his reign due to his megalomania near the end, but he did begin as a fairly normal emperor. However by the end of his reign he was identifying as the demigod Hercules (as I depicted in this piece), playing gladiator in the colosseum, and adding a bunch of crazy suffixes to his name (the one on here is the shortened form). His coinage is pretty crazy for the second century (lots of Hercules and randomly specific events) including some sick pics of him as a gladiator killing a lion. -- source link
