asymbina: thefingerfuckingfemalefury: why-i-love-comics: DC’s Beach Blanket Bad Guys Summer Special #1 - “Help” (2018) written by Jeff Lovenessart by David Williams & Steve Buccellato <3 This is adorable <3 And also The look of Pure Anger on Lex’s face in that last panel is genuinely hillarious I love this so much It’s why I think Batman is wrong about the “remarkable dichotomy”: Clark knows exactly how powerful he is, and he looks at people who are also powerful, albeit in other ways (that are arguably more consequential at that), and sees what they’ve become, and it makes him more humble, not more self-righteous Whereas Lex looks at everything he’s accomplished (which, depending on the version and backstory, ranges from “a lot even considering his wealthy background” to “became wealthier than anybody ever really guessed, invented technology decades or even centuries ahead of its time, and, despite his fundamentally selfish nature, has actually done right by a surprising number of people”) and believes that it makes him the person best suited to be running everything It’s also why I adore the moment in Grant Morrison’s All-Star Superman where Lex temporarily gains Clark’s powers and is just overwhelmed by the empathy Clark’s perspective forces upon him I mean, I think Clark would’ve had that empathy and compassion and humility without the super-senses Morrison implies, because that’s who he is, but he grew into those senses through his teenage years, gaining greater and greater awareness of how interconnected we all are, alongside the godlike power he was coming into And thus, the man who feels like the world is made of cardboard, and it’s his responsibility not to break it -- source link
