How? The sex tape. Which was made by her boyfriend at the time, who was married, and thirteen years her senior. She sued to try and stop it [the tape’s circulation] and she couldn’t and it became the best selling sex tape for two years on the porn market.”Dr. Gail Dines addressing porn culture and rape culture’s intersecting roles in patriarchyI think everyone should watch this video. It’s so real and the heart wrenching truth…I would like to formally apologize to every woman i ever talked badly about without ever considering what you went through as a human being. I am so very very sorry.THIS IS SO FUCKING IMPORTANT OH MY GODYeah keep promoting porn. It’s definitely a freedom of expression and has absolutely nothing to do with how we perceive and treat women in our society. That’s sarcasm. The thing about it, is that I don’t really perceive this as promoting porn. This isn’t about the tape itself, it’s not about how the tape was popular on the porn circuit. No one is denying that what the man did was horrible. This post, this imagery, is trying to focus on the way that Paris Hilton, as a woman, responded to the circumstance she was in, and it is about people, who are quick to criticize and mock, taking a moment and deciding to try and empathize with someone. It’s about realizing that celebrities are people, and that when we contribute to the vapid and vicious way that society treats them, we are not treating them as people, we are not empathizing, we are ignoring the fact that something similar might happen to someone who is not famous and maybe whom we are acquainted with and we would have a very different reaction. It’s not about the tape or any of that, it’s about fight or flight, it’s survival, it’s coping, it’s acknowledging humanity in public figures. -- source link
