Have you made your New Year’s Revolution yet? If not, you’re in luck! On Saturday January 16, artist and archivist Kameelah Janan Rasheed will be guiding our first Creative Art-Making of the new year, Activate Your Activism: Collage Critique. Presented in conjunction with AgitProp!, you will learn about the history of collage as a medium for politically engaged art and find your radical inspiration. Combine found images and text to create a piece that challenges social norms and imagines a better future in 2016.At the core of Rasheed’s interdisciplinary practice is research and the archive. She “excavates” objects and texts of the past and places them in a contemporary context, tracking the construction of personal and social stories. Rasheed uses the juxtapositions and repurposing of existing materials to create new narratives and reveal history. We hope you will join Rasheed here at the Brooklyn Museum to explore the past and imagine your future. Remember, a limited amount of tickets will be available on the day of the event, but advance tickets will be available online. Posted by Claire Kissinger -- source link
