aesthetic-blueberry-milk: nobodytheelf: Updated my Link and Zelda design bc I was not happy with the old ones -Lisbeth @theloudguy I definitely had a process for this for sure! I love fashion a lot especially historical fashion so I looked towards the past since Zelda is a bit more transitional with a modern twist. For Zelda usually her design have similar aspects to it. 1) with gold shoulder pads, 2) headpiece(not crown), 3) a top to the dress(separate piece usually the darker color), 4) hair by the ear that is usually embellished and 5) the fabric in front of the dress with Hyrulian iconography. So with these in mind this is where I focused on designing my own Zelda But with the thought of having her more in simple clothing because while royalty she was not treated as such in this story. So I looked more towards Tetra and skywards sword Zelda since they had more simple attires. This was her final design till I decided I was not happy with it. It felt like I was copying other Zelda’s instead of making her look more unique and making it fit the story rather than just trying to keep the Zelda aesthetic in general. So I looked at what I really like from historical fashion and Zelda fashion. So I had to think who is Zelda in this story exactly. She was a princess who was not treated as royalty,. She has worked all her life and has fought for the respect she deserves. I concluded that in this world purple was the color of royalty, so decided to change her color scheme. I liked embroidery but it couldn’t be to grans at the same time. So the for inspiration I looked at Norwegian traditional clothing and concept art from snow white! I felt a mix of these were way better suited to her environment. Her royal dress i decided to not make purple themed as well to go back into her roots she is also a queen so instead of just a headpiece I chose to look at King Rhoam’s Crown instead. As for link he had a very different design before. I rather would have had him with more of an Asian inspired clothing because he was raised by the Sheikah in this story but I decided It didn’t really fit him, as he spends a lot of the story trying not to forget where he comes from and the culture he had to abandon when he was a child. With context in this world Ganon has already won and has taken place as a king of Hyrule. So for link I looked at hyrulian clothing in botw which is very detailed and because I chose embroidery for zelda it would make sense I would choose it for link to. I also looked at kristoff because the story is focused on Norwegian culture and i loved the shape of his clothes. This would have a been one of the old designs I would have used if I went more of the shiekah route. Of of course I didn’t. I kept most of his Armour designs from the past the same But changed his green to a more toned down forest color I had alot of inspiration from Twilight Princess as well. I hope this helped out on gaining insight on my thought process I love fashion history alot but I think of course looking at the characters history helps as well when designing them! oop! posted this on wrong blog lol -- source link
