Barnet, London, UK, September 2018Porcelain mushroom (Oudemansiella mucida)This is a late find, as these mushrooms tend to die out in early October, and also the first time I’ve come across them! True to form, they’ve completely covered this dead Beech tree, allowing me to see the mushrooms at every stage of development. They’re eerily beautiful, being translucent and almost pure white when fully mature, and covered in a mucus slime, from which the epithet mucida is derived. These fungi are edible, once the slimy outer flesh is removed, but insubstantial, and I didn’t consider them worth collecting, especially as further down the log were some oysters in prime condition. -- source link
