elegantbeardedchaoscollection:timemachineyeah:the-movemnt:13-year-old Tyree King shot and killed by Ohio policeA Columbus, Ohio, police officer shot and killed a 13-year-old boy, identified as Tyree King. The officer was attempting to detain King on Wednesday night in connection to a robbery, according to NBC News.Police said in a statement that King “pulled a gun from his waistband” as officers approached him. After the fatal shooting, police recovered a BB gun from the scene, NBC reported. King was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital at 8:22 p.m. Eastern. This is a developing story.Ohio is an open carry state. Even if he had a real gun, that would have been his right. But keep telling me how we need second amendment rights because they allow us to “protect ourselves if the government ever becomes corrupt” because from where I’m standing it looks like those guns are used by a corrupt government to claim just cause.First, open carry doesn’t mean you can concealed carry. He had the weapon tucked into his waistband, that’s concealed. Second, open carry applies to those legally allowed, 18+. Third, open carry doesn’t permit you to brandish your weapon at anyone, especially not a cop who’s attempting to arrest you for armed robbery. The weapon he was using, for the robbery and pulled on police, was an Umarex 40XP. It’s a Sig Sauer P226 clone. He removed the orange safety tip which would’ve identified it as a toy. His friend (19, Demetrius Braxton) already admitted to the armed robbery, and placed blame on Tyree, saying it was his idea. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. This is what it looks like when people are held accountable for their actions.First, how would the officer know he didn’t have a concealed carry license? Second, if the officer knew he was a literal child who open/concealed carry laws don’t apply to, then he should have also known he was a literal child who you shouldn’t be fucking shooting at. Third, pulling a gun and aiming a gun are two different things. If this fits the pattern of previous murders by police, I doubt he had time to drop it, discard it, or hold it up in a non threatening way. I doubt he had time to even do anything that would be threatening or not before they shot him.Fourth, if they had intel from his friend before the incident, then they should have known 1. that was a literal child and 2. that was not a real gun or actual threat. If they did not have intel before the incident, then what a friend admitted to later is irrelevant. Fifth, last I checked armed robbery is not a crime that is punished with the death penalty. This is not a punishment that fits the crime. And no crime should be punished with an extrajudicial execution. And finally, CHILDREN SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO MAKE MISTAKES WITHOUT DYING FOR IT. This isn’t a PERSON being HELD ACCOUNTABLE. It is a CHILD BEING MURDERED. These aren’t natural consequences, they are constructed ones, and they are inexcusable in any moral system. -- source link
