ancientart:Shown here is a kudurru (stele) of King Melishipak I (1186–1172 BC). This kudurru dates to the Kassite period, and was taken to Susa in the 12th century BC as war booty. Grasping her arm, the king presents his daughter to the goddess Nannaya. There are three further points of interest in this scene: the sun to the far right represents the god Shamash, the central crescent moon the god Sin, and the star, the goddess Ishtar. In Mesopotamian religion, Shamash was the god of the sun, and the son of Sin, the moon god. Ishtar was the goddess of sexual love and war.Courtesy of & currently located at the Louvre, France, Sb 23.
