Stubby!” He reaches back to throw something, saying, “Think fast!” Vex catches it, looking annoyed and saying, “You almost hit Trinket!” Vax says, “Did not! You know my aim’s perfect.” Vex says, “Perfect? Oh really now?” Vax says, “Better than yours at least.” Vex looks at the object he threw to her, and it’s a gold locket on a chain. She says, “Oh! Vax. Don’t tell me you spent coin on this. You know we need to conserv–” Vax interrupts, “Relax! It was a five-finger discount, okay? I saw you eyeing it yesterday,” and smiles at he wiggles his fingers at her.“And did you get a trinket for Trinket as well?” Vex asks. Vax scratches Trinket’s chin and says, “Don’t tell me it’s the bear’s birthday too…” Vex says, “Well, we don’t know his real one!” She sets Trinket down and pets him, saying, “You know what, Buddy? You can share with us. I’ll catch you an extra rabbit for your present, okay?” Vax says, “One for the bear, but not your own brother?”Vex reaches into her bag, saying, “Tch, did you think I forgot you? Yes, I got you something too. Not exactly as nice as your gift, but…” She pulls out a vial of purple portion, holding it up and saying, “Here’s a greater healing potion. It’s for the next time you jump right into danger without thinking and get shanked.” Vax takes the potion, saying, “Hey now, that was just a fluke, all right? Sometimes luck just runs out…and how was I s’posed to know there was–” Vex interrupts him: “Yeah, yeah, I know. Just…keep it on your just in case. I worry when you go into town, okay?”Smiling sincerely, Vax says, “Vex’ahlia. Thank you. I know these cost a fortune.” Vex replies, “Well, you’re worth every copper.” Then, looking annoyed, she adds, “Ugh! Don’t get all teary on me now!” She puts the locket around her neck, saying, “But, um, thanks for this. It–it reminded me of one of Mother’s. You remember it?” After a brief pause, Vax says, “Yeah, I thought the same. You look more like her all the time.” Vex replies, “Pfft. I could say the same of you.”The last panel shows them walking off into the forest together, Trinket between them. Vex says, “Happy birthday, Vax. Love you.” Vax says, “You too, Stubby.
