Ancient Egyptian bust of Nefertiti,Nefertiti was the wife of Egyptian Pharoah Akhenaton (1351BC-1334BC), the Egyptian ruler who attempted to convert Egypt to monotheism through the worship of the sun god Aten.The bust is believed to have been crafted in 1345BC by the sculptor Thutmose, the favored sculptor of the Pharoah. In 1912 it was discovered by German archeologist Ludwig Borschardt. During World War II it was stored in a secret bunker in order to protect it from Allied bombing. At the end of the war it was captured by US Army and given to the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives branch, a military service dedicated to preserving arts and monuments throughout the war. Eventually it was returned to German authorities.Currently its on display at Neues Museum in Berlin, Germany. A heated controversy has arisen, mostly around the bust’s authenticity, and also because of Egyptian demands for repatriation.
