remshel:sancheeeeez762:Buster Keaton’s stunts before green screen - 1920sOkay, this is amazing and I’m so glad to see some appreciation for him on my dash.Buster Keaton was a fucking BADASS. All of these stunts were done without a body double, and are only a few of the dozens he would do in each and every film (and he made a LOT of films). The reason why these look so cool and incredibly dangerous is because they ARE incredibly dangerous- the one where he’s sitting on the edge of the train almost wasn’t filmed because the conductor wasn’t sure that he could get the train to go slow enough without tearing Buster to shreds, but with basically every stunt that was likely to end in death, Buster Keaton was like, “eh, we’re going through with it”. The one with the falling wall of a house is another good example, if they didn’t measure out the window precisely and have him stand on the perfect spot (nevermind anything going wrong) he would have been crushed to death. Keaton actually broke his neck on a stunt in The General (same movie as the gifs with the trains, though the actual stunt isn’t pictured here) when he passed underneath a high pressure stream of water from a water tower, but he kept filming and didn’t realize he was injured for some time. Like I said, badass. His films are pretty fun and relatively available, so definitely check them out if you want some breathtaking stuntwork and silly plots. -- source link
