tora42:deputychairman:luminousfinn:I love absolutely all of this, but can I just draw attention to the third gif - the one where Bodhi is saying “I defected” - and Riz’s acting. The mix of anger, defiance and also an underlying pride. He defected, from the view point of the Empire he’s a traitor and they are hunting for him. Later when Cassian and Jyn get to The Holy City we see how many stoppers the Empire has pulled out to find him.And he’s proud. Bodhi is proud of his, it’s written all over his face in that moment, his voice is heavy with it as he emphasises the word ‘defected’.I just.. Riz’s acting, his delivery of that line is so spot on I can’t.@bodhirookandor @queenorgaana @behisrookBodhi’s a victim twice over, isn’t he? No real choice but to work for the Empire as it slowly kills his home, and then tortured by the rebels when he tries to make amends. I wonder how Finn would have reacted if after “you need a pilot” Poe hadn’t immediately trusted him and his taken him at his word; if Rey and BB-8 hadn’t believed that he tried to help Poe and Han Solo had been as suspicious as Saw Gerrera - either he’s luckier in who he meets, or are people just more trusting a generation after the fall of the Empire?my kneejerk reaction was to say yeah, probably. 30 years of relative peace will probably make people less inclined to assume someone is a spy for the enemy. but i gotta cut saw gerrera a break here, because the guy was a clone wars veteran who is canonically dealing with a hell of a lot of ptsd, the death of his sister steela, and whatever happened to onderon once the empire rose to power was probably pretty freakin terrible for him to have fled to jedha. so yeah, saw is extra paranoid. but considering the empire’s track record? that paranoia is probably justified. especially considering how long galen erso has been in imperial custody. saw’s got no way of knowing whether or not galen’s trying to trap him for the empire or actually trying to help. it’s been 15 years, that’s more than long enough for galen to be compromised. his way of confirming bodhi’s story is still shit awful and totally uncalled for, mind-raping the poor guy for trying to help? wtf saw, this is why the rebellion doesn’t like you. but then i had finn feels. okay. poe being trusting because he was only a baby when the rebellion beat the empire, his parents were rebel war heroes who probably weren’t gonna tell their kid the worst of those war stories, if they told him any at all. he didn’t grow up in war time, he didn’t grow up with the very real possibility of the person next to you selling you out to save their own skin. so poe trusting finn right off the bat i can believe, especially after being mind raped by kylo ren not even an hour before hand. but han? oh han solo definitely didn’t believe finn. at least not at first. he was just better at hiding it. he already knew finn was lying about being with the resistance when they first met. (the way finn looks away when rey says it? big fat tell right there.) han doesn’t know what the kid’s deal is, but he’s definitely lying about something and he’d never forgive himself if he sent leia a first order spy. but hear me out: that’s why he brings them to takodana first. not just to find a clean ship, but to give himself more time to figure out finn’s deal. when finn decides to flee instead of taking bb8 to the resistance, that’s when he knows for sure finn’s defection is genuine. -- source link
