365 DC Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year… October 16th - FadeCarlos Quinones, Jr. had been a young resident of Dakota City who had gotten involved with volatile situation of turf wars between the city’s various street gangs. A number of the gangs had arranged for a ‘Big Bang’ a large scale brawl at The Paris Island Pier that would act to determine which gangs could claim ownership over which neighborhoods. The police became aware of this event and sent a riot squad to tear gas the whole ordeal and hopefully break up the fight. Unfortunately, an unscrupulous scientist had added a mysterious element called quantum vapor into the gas. The vapor mixed with the tear gas caused the majority of those exposed to it to die. Those who survived, however, were bestowed super human powers. Carols was one the survivors. He found that his body had been transformed into a partially intangible state. This enables him flight as well as the ability to phase through solid matter. He can additionally generate spheres of space-time matter that he can use in both an offensive and defensive fashion. Now calling himself ‘Fade,’ Carlos joined with a group of other survivors in forming The Blood Syndicate, a gang of super powered beings that protect the more impoverished neighborhoods of Dakota City. The Syndicate’s initial goal was to help bring about lasting positive change to their city. Yet one of them members, Holocaust, was intent on gaining power and notoriety. In order to achieve this, Holocaust panned to have The Blood Syndicate take out the hero Icon. Fade had no interest in following Holocaust’s dastardly scheme, yet he was essentially blackmailed into falling in line. Holocaust was aware that Fade is gay, a matter that Fade very much wanted to keep a secret; and Holocaust threatened to ‘out’ Fade if he didn’t do his bidding. Holocaust’s influence over Fade was eliminated once the villain was seemingly killed in battle against the fellow Syndicate member known as Wise Son. Fade first appeared int he pages of Blood Syndicate #1 (1993). -- source link
