singingyourpraises:kurokaiserx:thefreshprinceof-denmark:leviswaxedass:dahniwitchoflight:leviswaxedass:disneydamselestelle:scottylubemeup:THIS WAS A CHILDRENS MOVIEA CHILDRENS BIBLE MOVIE( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) AmenFUN FACT: in hebrew, “feet” is a euphemism for genitals.so if you ever see “washing feet” in the bible, it, uh. yeah.(source is my old bible class textbook which i don’t have on me anymore :( )HOLY SHIT WHATI MEAN CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG BUT I SWEAR TO GOD I REMEMBER READING A STORY IN THE BIBLE WHERE JESUS CLEANED THE ‘FEET’ OF A LADY PROSTITUTE INFRONT OF HIS TWELVE DISCIPLES WHO GOT SERIOUSLY GROSSED OUT. THEM GETTING REALLY SUPER GROSSED OUT BY THAT NEVER MADE SENSE TO ME UNTIL NOW.JESUS CHRIST JESUS.YOU NASTY.#WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO WHEN JESUS IS THE ONE WHO NEEDS JESUSTHAT HASHTAG I”m—-—okay but “washing feet” is not a euphemism. that one is literal. jesus literally washed feet. people were like “what the fuck bruh” because it was a sign of subservience.“feet” was sometimes a euphemism (especially in the old testament). especially when they said someone “revealed their feet” or some such thing. because they would all be wearing tunics or togas. their feet would already have been visible. it meant someone flipped up the bottom half because fun things were going on downstairs.I’d really appreciate it if people actually read the Bible and try to understand it before making statements like this. (By the way, that euphemism may exist in Hebrew, but the New Testament was written in Greek. Therefore that argument makes no sense.)Amen to the person above this comment.Yes thank you for clarifying this!Washing of feet was a significant custom in Hebrew culture because throughout the day by walking around outside people’s feet of course became very dirty. Washing them represented the cleansing of sin (dirt) when one entered a house. But it was a task usually done by servants or slaves - not considered honorable. Modern-day equivalent of something like taking out the trash or scrubbing the toilet. So for Jesus to wash his disciples’ feet shocked them because he was filling the role of a servant to his own disciples. Also, I WILL correct that earlier comment because you are wrong. it was actually the prostitute who washed Jesus’ feet - again, filling the role of a servant. The disciples were shocked because 1) they felt the woman was unworthy to wash Jesus’ feet, and 2) she washed his feet with an expensive perfume, which they assumed should be sold and the money given to the poor instead.- my parents went to Bible college and I’ve read dozens of Bible commentaries, I know this stuff -- source link
