wintermane: fancybidet: alaynyala: buddhabrot: alaynyala: itscolossal: Harvard’s Colorful Library Filled With 2,500 Pigments Collected form Around the World !!! this is cool but also what’s the point From a preservation standpoint it could help textile and art conservators approximate the pigments used to color different objects since over time pigments break down. Chemically, each pigment has a slight variation so when they go to repair something faded or soiled they may be able to pinpoint the exact shade they need to restore. I like to think of it like a seed library but for colors. Pigments also indicate the era in which they were available. They tell a lot about the media available to artists, and in turn give art context. It’s part of our human history. That’s the point. @alliebirdseed Let’s go. @wintermane OH MAN!! -- source link
