After leaving the Maharishi University after a single semester in 2008, I made a bunch of paintings about that year; for June I painted a memory of Drew Hays and I sitting at a fire in an area called Strawberry Field. Drew played guitar and we watched the moon rise above us. It was pure magic. I finally grabbed this painting from my parent’s house in 2019 with plans to mail it to Drew. Then 2020 happened, it just wasn’t a big priority, Drew moved down to Florida and I didn’t know his address etc etc. It never happened. A picture of the painting remains his FB banner image. It’s an honor. RIP Drew. I won’t miss your wild man antics because I don’t think they’ll ever leave me enough to be missed. You were larger than life and that’s why you’ve grown beyond it. We were both pretty obsessed with Hunter Thompson for a while so I know you bought the ticket and now you’re taking the ride. Enjoy it, man. -- source link
