extraterrestrial-ancestors: Photo series called perverted Kintsugi. A response and representation of the direct affect and actions of “the male gaze” in art that is always bestowed upon the naked female form in art. The image will go through intense analysis and social conditioning, and be categorised based on the overriding opinion and the emotions qualities found within its male audience, not that of the artist or the artists social political intention or established stance. When male eyes fall on the female form, it says far more about the eyes of man than the intentions of the person with the emotive body. The body is censored, shaped and deformed within a consumer culture context and in the art world. Craftmen of the male gaze find the camera crafted into everyday life, exposing sexual in consumer culture, and then expected to bare the personal wars of womanhood within an art context, In a classic catch 22. The male gaze also makes an instant gender and sexuality assumption based solely on the body represented. Kintsugi being the Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with gold, and the belief being that these fixes make the pottery more beautiful. The notion in my title being that the male gaze puts forward the idea that their views and input into the work are fertile, when in fact they have taken this process and perverted it, morphed it for their own cause. To yet again feed their undying thirst for ownership and manipulation of the female body. -- source link
