echiromani:MatteianoThe Matteiano obelisk is perhaps Rome’s most obscure, as it is located in the Villa Celimontana, off the beaten path of most tourists and pilgrims. It is also the smallest ancient obelisk in the city, standing at only a bit more than eight and half feet.It is of a pair with the Macuteo obelisk in front of the Pantheon, having come originally from Temple of Ra in Heliopolis. Rameses II had it erected between 1486 and 1420 BC. It was moved to the Temple of Isis near Santa Maria sopra Minerva, and found in the 14th century, and, with its partner, erected east of Santa Maria in Aracoeli on the Capitoline. It was moved to Villa Celimontana after Michelangelo redesigned the square in the late 16th century. It was thereafter lost again. Fragments were rediscovered and re-erected in 1820. -- source link
