archatlas: Rig-e Jenn – Thomas Flensted Eastern Iran is dominated by two vast deserts. In the middle of one of them - the Dasht-e Kavir - lies a vast and desolate place dominated by enormous sand dunes. This place is called Rig-e Jenn, which translates to “Dune of the Jinn”. A “jinn” is a spirit in Islamic culture and this place was once (and in some places still) believed to accommodate evil spirits. I always show these photo sets to a few friends and/or family members before publishing them, and almost every person has insinuated or said that some of these photos must be manipulated or retouched. I can assure they are not. No manipulation, no retouching. The desert really looks like this and in some cases, yes, it does look unreal. -- source link
