chescaleigh:philogynoir:philogynoir:The influx of hate I get when someone with a large following makes a video attacking me. This is cyber bullying. Peep the amount of hatred directed at my skin, hair, and intelligence. I have had to disable the ratings and comments on my latest video because racists began attacking other black women who ONCE felt comfortable speaking on their experiences with misogynoir on a platform that is supposed to be a safe space for them to vent and foster discussion. This is like the fourth or fifth time I’ve had to deal with constant harassment/abuse since beginning the channel and…this is not conducive to my mental health. As for right now, I’m torn between restricting the ability to comment on my channel period, or just not checking the comments and allowing for the space to be infiltrated. Even saying this infuriates me because this is exactly why I started the channel in the first place. Either way, I’m looking for the best solution for my audience. Please respond with suggestions, if you can. Love you all. Okay, so after reading everyone’s responses, I decided to enable the comments on the video receiving the most hate, but unsubscribe from the email notifications. Basically, I’ve chosen to not read the comments :/My reasoning for re-enabling the comments is because I figure the trolls would be *less* likely to troll the other videos if they had somewhere to dump their shit. The last time I checked, it seemed to be working. Honestly, this is a hit to my pride - since I will no longer be conversing with my boos on the tube, BUT it has forced me to start working on new projects that I’m sure many of you all will enjoy once they launch. Also, other platforms like Tumblr and Twitter work better for me anyway. Bottom line, I ain’t going nowhere. I will not be silenced. My shit still ain’t for you white people.I’m sorry you have to deal with this. I also recently stopped reading or responding to YouTube comments because they’ve gotten so bad. It sucks, but your mental health is more important than dealing with this shit. Your true audience will reach out to you on Tumblr/Facebook/Twitter when they need to connect with you. Stay strong. It’s hard out here for black women on the internet. -- source link
