lamus-dworski:Kujawskie sypanie piasku (Kuyavian pouring of sand)Ethnography organizations in the region of Kujawy (north-central Poland) are reviving an old local custom: decorating paths and streets with symbols made of sand. In the old days such decorations were commonly prepared for various religious feasts (the custom was known also in other regions of Poland). It was described by ethnographers already in 19th century.Such protective sand symbols were sometimes adoring also the floor inside rural houses for festive meals, such as the Easter breakfast. These ‘sand carpets’ were most often poured on paths leading to houses during the Easter Week. The same motifs that are ‘drawn’ with the sand are also appearing in regional embroidery of Kujawy (see examples here).Sources of pictures: przedecz.net, rodzinka.wloclawek.pl, gadki.lublin.pl, wloclaweknews.pl, woak.torun.pl. -- source link
