They still hold weekly mass here.Everything you see is salt, except the humans.The Wieliczka Salt Mine in southern Poland is one of the first twelve monuments on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. The mine was the pride of kings and the source of the country’s wealth. It is a product of work of countless generations of miners which opened the mine in the 13th century. There are even evidences that people in the Neolithic era (6000 years ago) extracted salt from saline springs close to where the mine is located now. The springs, however, disappeared due to the salt making operations. -- source link
