benditlikekorra: owldee: masterarrowhead: hawkfeather: atla-annotated: Energybending - A Comparison While the Lionturtle and Aang use the same technique, Amon seems to be using another method. When Aang takes away Ozai’s bending, and when the Lionturtle teaches Aang energybending, they both thouch TWO points on the body, the yin tang and the ru zhong point aka the Ajna chakra and the Anahata chakra. When Amon ‘takes away’ LBZ’s bending, he only touches ONE point, the yin tang. Now what could that mean? I think Amon is faking it. That he is making people believe that he is taking away their bending, when what he is actually doing is blocking a chakra. Here is why: Amon touches the yin tang point aka the Ajna chakra: Yintang Acupuncture Point Location: Midway between the medial ends of the eyebrows Actions& Effects: Calms the spirit - insomnia, anxiety, stress. Frontal headache. Sinus issues - congestion, sinusitis. When Uncle is teaching Zuko about lightning, he talks about bending needing a certain amount of inner calm. So, if you were to close that chakra and lock all the anxiety inside someone, making them incapable of being calm, that would effectively take someone’s bending away. Quite clever actually, since the more terrified they are/become the more permanent this block will be. And Amon is sure laying it on thick. Ru zhong, Ajna chakra, Anahata chakra. Image source: One I’d also like to note that he touches the back of his neck too. It’s really split second but he does. Now if we look here…. Hmmmmmm….. “AMON” “AMON” #what’s sad about this is the fact that Bryke or Mike couldn’t even put to words #about how bloodbending could take away bending permanently #and how the Avatar could restore it #and the fandom came up with a much more convincing and researched explanation #just right after episode 3 #it could’ve been as simple as this#pressure points #and it wouldn’t even be questioned so much #but nope #siiiighh as the english major that always cries intentional fallacy, INTENTIONAL FALLACY Guys, it doesn’t matter what Mike or Bryan do or do not say. I know it’s tempting to view them as the gods of all canon but, honestly, I think they appreciate us thinking for ourselves and coming to our own conclusions more than always relying on them. This is a completely valid explanation - just because fans came up with it and not Bryke should honestly not diminish its impact. …that’s like, the basis of what makes fandom fandom and texts texts and stories stories and idk just reader-response type things are usually a more interesting/advantageous approach to fiction… word of god stuff…idk, it’s just hard to read like that as a poststructuralist… It’s also possible that they don’t really want to reveal why Amon was able to take bending away at this time because they’re planning on revealing that information later. Who knows, it may actually involve spirits or it may follow this energybending/bloodbending explanation. -- source link
