suns-of-gallifrey:chocolatequeennk:strangeparticles:Here, cousin.I love how he just beckons Bolingbroke, and he comes like an obedient dog. Richard, king to the end.Yep, it’s hilarious. And doubly hilarious when you remember how he said his lines here. It was really like he was playing fetch with a dog. Bahahahahahahaha…..It’s a great scene (all of act 4) because here’s Bolingbroke, supposedly in charge, set to become king… and Richard is all, “I’ll give you the crown because I have no choice, but I want your last memory of me to be of me totally in command.”And so he does this tour de force bit about giving up the crown, which only makes it clear in everyone’s eyes that, crown or not, Richard will always be regal in a way Bolingbroke, man of the people, really can’t manage. Of course, there’s more to ruling than being regal, and this scene also highlights his biggest weakness. He never grasped that being king is about the people, and that’s why he lost. -- source link
