She broke the glass ceiling in her field in 1896, when her “Gaelic”Symphony was performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra.Shewas a musical prodigy, being able to sing over forty pieces by age one andcomposing by age four, mentally, even in the absence of a piano. She gave herfirst formal concert at the age of 18, and later toured throughout Europe,enjoying great success.
