mari-musing: Kalamunda 100: Hot in the HillsWe ticked off our first big cycling challenge of the year with a 60km hills ride in scorching 42℃ (107.6℉) heat on the tarmac by the 42km mark. ‘Quit’ isn’t part of my vocabulary but I was having a struggle moment right at that point! Even after we finished I think it took me several hours to stop sweating. It’s rocky, dusty, hot and harsh out there in the hills. I got sunburned. It may be soft but clubathletica and I agreed how happy we are to live on the coast!Mel had her new road bike and cleats (celebration!) and bounded up the hills like a rabbit; Georgi is steadfast as a rock; and I’m still the quickest downhill even if I am the proverbial tortoise going up!This post also counts as my FMLS90 Week 10 Challenge. I took myself up several peaks but didn’t spend any time contemplating the universe when I was up there: it was straight into the thrill of the descent! I did my reflection over a massive plate of chicken curry for lunch afterwards at the Pickering Sports Club, which revived me slightly. (That’s a fib - I sat there like a zombie stuffing my face.) But metaphorically, the landscape profile pictured above reflects my life with a chronic illness: big highs and lows; progress and regression. I’m happy I have the steel to get out there and do things like this. -- source link
