theholymasochist Answering your inbox message here because I want to include the chubby-love in his book so I don’t want to lose it!“I just rescued a chihuahua about a month ago. She was underweight when I got her, but she’s put on a lot of weight since! One day, I hope she will be as chubby as lil’ Alberto. #goals “Alberto was a severely underweight ADULT dog when I adopted him. This made his size extra “teacup” before he expanded into the beloved “7-11 Big Gulp Mug” LOL.I also adopted a second chihuahua shortly after this as a gift for my friend who was getting divorced and would be alone (not anymore! happily Chihuahua’d and now remarried! (: ) This 2nd chihuahua, a standard full-size named Ricardo, about 4lb when he should have been more like 10 was put on a special vet-only prescription food to help ease into kibble (alberto had little teeth for this so he was strictly wet food) and other hard chows. Discuss that with your vet first (:While in the gainin process your vet will weigh your beloved for free.To put weight on both of them this was what I did:DO NOT IMMEDIATELY LOAD WITH FOOD. introduce slowly in times and let snack freely during the day if your dog isn’t spotting food and gunning for it immediately you can leave it out in a bowl, but this is where you’ll establish a small meal of breakfast-lunch-dinner times with snacks inbetween. Always check poop consistency after feeding & establish notes on it for your vet, photos of it or bring in samples.Meat meat meat meat! High protein meat. Bison/buffalo. Lamb chop. Chopped meat, pork chop, boiled/baked chicken shredded up with white rice, venison, & turkey. Fish like cod, salmon, tuna and shrimp can be given in small chunks as treats. All of this can be served with white potatos boiled or baked. Eggs for breakfast! Cooked any style your dog prefers lol. You can mix vitamins into cooking these! The satin balls are a must!http://www.heroswaggintrain.com/health/malnourished.htmVeggie-heavy stews are also great to make, chopped meat with fresh broth, carrots, and other dog-friendly veggies, you will have to figure out what your dog likes for this. Also a large breed puppy food in the mix while weaning off of this diet.Treats would be peanut butter and (seperately lol!) knox unflavored gelatin with vitamins (fishoil and whatever your vet suggests) and a little broth for flavor mixed in, fridgerate this until it’s solid like normal people-jello. along with your standard puppy-sized snacks. pupperoni, bacon carryouts, etc. Plain yogurt is also a great tasty snack!Be wary of allergies and make a food notebook for your vet (: -- source link
