gffa:ART OF THE LAST JEDI: Jedi Temple concept art INNER TEMPLE TRAINING VERSION 01:”Rey, under Luke’s instructions, trains in an early-era Jedi temple. The frustration in her pose indicates that she is not happy with the training or that she is frustrated by her progress. She’s manipulating the energy around her by levitating rocks and other debris, mirroring the training in Empire. The architecture is inspired by early Hindu patterns, which I used for their repetitive nature and carved motifs, and which appear frequently in McQuarrie’s work. The stonework at the entrance is similar to the monasteries on Skellic, indicating that after the temple was abandoned, a more primitive or advanced culture continued building, but not for Jedi purposes. (Jenkns)YIN YANG 4: Seth Engstrom’s final design for the ancient Jedi temple mosaic, from April 2016. Rian Johnson recalls that, “It was a long process, getting to that final Jedi temple mosaic.”POOL ROCK JEDI VERSION 04:Seth Engstrom’s Jedi Temple designs were inspired by Taoist symbology of the yin and yang (dark and light shapes within each other, representing the balance of dualities and that the schmism between them is merely perceptual). Both George Lucas and The Empire Strikes Back director Irvin Kershner were influenced by Asian philosophical and religious traditions, particularly Zen Buddhism, for Lucas’s early conception and Kershner’s later development of the Force, principally outlined within Yoda’s teachings in Empire. "This is a symbol of the first Jedi, or ‘Jedi Prime’,“ Engstrom explained in March 2016. "The center, yellowish rocks represent the energy of a lightsaber, splitting off into two directions: the dark and the light side of the Force. The black rocks symbolize the energy of the Force–everything in between, binding the universe together.”POOL ROCK JEDI VERSION 06: “The rocks on either side are faceless because they have not chosen yet which face the viewer is to become.” (Engstrom) -- source link
