NO JUSTICE: The Order of the Emerald ClawFor behold! The old world is dying, and passeth away even now. I say to you truly, my brothers and my sisters, that the new world shall have neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for Death itself shall die. We shall all be kings of men, and resurrectors of eternal life.— Confessor Scriptures, c. 1587 B.K.A cult of Karrnathi nationalists, a heretical cabal of Blood of Vol clergy, a secret society of necromancers probing into the ancient mysteries of Aerenal and beyond— no one is really sure what the Emerald Claw is these days. Named for the epithet of St. Isidore, the right hand and twin brother of the Traitor Saint on whose bones the Church of Sorrows is built, the Order was once a noble legion of Karrnathi knights and mages, defenders and protectors of the crown. (Once.)They are scattered, now, after their suppression at the hands of Regent Moranna thirty years hence. The suspicion of treason had proven all the reason she needed; for what cause, no one but she could say. For three decades the remains of the Order have fractured and fought amongst one another, split by conflicting loyalties and aims, leaderless and cannibalistic.(Not anymore.)The Tyrant Death is weakening, and even now the new world struggles to be born. The murder of millions in the Mourning, the loss of countless more in the war, the captains of industry that feed human gristle to the machine of progress: Death in his greed sows the seeds of his own end. For what just God would allow horror such as this? What God of mercy and love would allow the bones of the myriad dead to choke the fields and the flowers, and the scars of war to mar every living thing? We are many, and Death is one. To rise against his rule is the revolution of righteousness and justice, the revolution of love. No longer will we be exploited, ground down, stolen from. We will storm the gates of Heaven, and whatever God we find, we will make Him answer for what he has done.(A reckoning will not long be postponed.) -- source link
