duointherain: ironbound-oberon:I have cochlear implants and I can only buy parts to fix them or upgrade then from 1 corporation bc of tech exclusivity. upgrades to get new processors for both ears cost $23k & insurance only covers 90% (and it’s “good” insurance)cyberpunk dystopia is already here for the disabled. fight for universal healthcare, fight against capitalism NOW. I do want to have more durable parts. I hope I get into grad school next year and I can work on comp neuro and my history degree. For most of my life though, health care very much was behind a paywall. For people living in food deserts, healthy food is behind a paywall that’s hard to breach. As a trans person even after Obama care, care I needed was behind a paywall and sometimes doctors don’t like me and don’t want to help even now. It’s pretty good here in Seattle and I have the best personal doctor. Many of the homeless in this country need mental health care, drug rehab… guess where those are.. paywall baby. I hope things change. I hope things get better, but having life behind a paywall is the world we all currently live in. It’s just some of us have money. -- source link
