Damage stretched beyond Cincinnati, affecting areas fromPittsburgh to Illinois. 385 people died, one million were left homeless, 100thousand of which were from the Cincinnati area, and property damage reached500 million. Federal and state aid were stretched at the time as the disasteroccurred during the depths of the Great Depression.
