Born in 1876 to the formerly enslaved William A. Porter and school teacher Edlinda Davis Porter, Jennie Davis Porter would go on to be a woman of many firsts. She faced racial prejudice head on and never let that stand in the way of her goals. She was the first Black woman to receive her Doctorate at the University of Cincinnati. She was the first Black woman superintendent in Cincinnati.
