peashooter85:Fun History Fact,James Doohan, who played Scotty in the 1960′s Sci Fi series “Star Trek” lost his middle finger when it was shot off during the Invasion of Normandy in World War II. Serving as an observation pilot with the Royal Canadian Artillery, he was shot six times by a machine gun in a friendly fire incident; four in his leg, one in the chest, and one through his right middle finger. The bullet to his chest would have struck him in the heart were it not deflected by a silver cigarette case given to him by his brother. -- source link
