When I first started voting in my GA county, I voted in the Republican primary, because Democrats literally did not run and if I wanted in a say in the lesser evil, I had to vote in the Republican primary. This election, my county has elected a Black Democrat sheriff, a Black Democrat county commissioner (also flipped the county commission from majority Republican to majority Dem, including a new Dem in the affluent white part of the county that always goes Republican), a Democrat District Attorney, and went for Biden by over 15 points. The Republican incumbents who held their seats did so with a hair’s width of a margin (500 votes for my state rep). The Democratic incumbents were reelected. Don’t shit on our fight. We are moving the marker. Each election, we push it more to the left. We had record turnout from young voters and BIPOC voters. I have been voting in this district since 1998 and I have seen it get better every election since the 2008 Presidential primary. It’s not perfect, but we are the feet on the ground who are putting in the work to move the needle, and we’re making progress. -- source link
