ultimate-passport: Bairds Tapir - BelizeThe Bairds Tapir is the largest land mammal in Central America. Found also in countries such as Mexico, Panama, and Colombia, the Tapir is the national animal of Belize, where it is often referred to as a Mountain Cow. The Tapir is vulnerable to extinction. The two main factors contributing to the decline in population are: poaching; and loss of habitat. Hunting tapirs is illegal in most Central American countries, the laws can be hard to enforce. Other than humans, the only other natural predators to the Tapir are Crocodiles, and Jaguars, although due to their size, the tapir will usually win any battles that do come its way. -- source link
