Fragmentsof high-quality glassware (16thcentury, Tara, Siberia).Tara,one of the oldest Russian settlements in Tara, was founded as afortress town in 1594 by Prince Andrei Eletsky. It was home toTsarist forces, and criminal and political exiles. Rather than being merely a remote province, it was a military town.Theseglass fragments were probably imported from Germany or the CzechRepublic.
