We’re excited to start rolling out some big changes happening here at the Museum as part of an exciting initiative funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies called #BloombergConnects. Here we’ll be updating you on these changes as they happen so say tuned! One thing I noticed when first visiting the Brooklyn Museum (before I was an employee) was the lack of name on the exterior of the building. The the architecture, the exterior banners, the art visible through the glass, all indicate that the building is some important cultural institution, but no where did we explicitly say. Additionally, there is some confusion about how to enter. The protrusion of the glass canopy helps communicate the location of the revolving doors, but it’s not easy to see at every approach angle and the Beaux-Arts architecture style suggests to some that they need to go up the stairs to the piano nobile to enter (which was the original entrance). Working with MTWTF as part of our Bloomberg Connects visitor experience initiative, we’re adding our name to the front of the building. We hope this will ameliorate entry point confusion and also provide a more welcoming presence, particularly when paired with a set of banners just inside hanging from the brick arcade that say “welcome.”Posted by Sara Devine -- source link
