King Nicholas I and the Gasser Montenegrin,Between 1870 and World War I the Austrian company called Gasser made a series of double action revolvers which became popular all over Europe.  Due to demand, Gasser subcontracted a number of smaller firms in Belgium and Spain to bolster production.  Gasser Montenegrin models were Gasser revolvers produced for export to the small Balkan nation of Montenegro. Often Montenegrin Gassers have a number of personalized features such as engravings, decor, ivory or pearl grips, auto extractors, and break open actions.In 1910, the Montenegrin king, Nicholas I, decreed that all male citizens were members of the Montenegrin militia had to purchase a Gasser revolver.
